Michael Dickson is the founding and Executive Director of the Center for the Application of Information Technologies (CAIT) at Western Illinois University. Founded in 1989 and formally recognized by the Illinois Board of Higher Education as an institute in July 1996, CAIT has been on the forefront of online teaching and training. CAIT has developed online teaching and training programs and systems not just in Illinois, but around the world. CAIT’s client list includes the United States Department of Education, the United States Department of Defense, McDonald’s Inc., Abbott Laboratories, the Illinois Attorney General, and the Illinois Century Network, among others. Since 1990 CAIT has received over $57 million in competitive grants and contracts. In addition CAIT has published three books and over fifty articles in the distance learning field.
