Susan Batchelor
President, Clay County Hospital

As president of Clay County Hospital, Susan Batchelor oversees the operation of a 22-bed acute-care facility located in rural Flora, Illinois. The hospital is a governmental unit owned by the County of Clay and has been managed by a BJC HealthCare subsidiary, CH Allied Services, since 1983.

A new hospital, opened in February 2000, was built to replace the older Clay County facility. Prior to her promotion to president in 2005, Batchelor served as the chief operating officer and director of clinical services at Clay County Hospital. She previously held director-level positions supervising home care services for Richland Memorial Hospital, Salem Township Hospital and Harrisburg Medical Center in Illinois. She also taught nursing students at Illinois Eastern Community Colleges. Batchelor earned her undergraduate nursing degree from Wright State University in Ohio, and a master’s degree in nursing administration from Bellarmine College in Kentucky.

Batchelor is a registered nurse and diplomat of the American College of Healthcare Executives. She serves on the Flora School Board, Flora Academic Foundation and CCH Endowment Foundation, and teaches Sunday school at her church. Batchelor also is the information coordinator for Clay County’s local emergency planning committee. Batchelor is a native of Salem, Indiana. She and her husband have three children.
