David Loomis
Institute for Regulatory Policy Studies, Illinois State University

Dr. David G. Loomis is Executive Director of the Institute for Regulatory Policy Studies and Associate Professor of Economics at Illinois State University. Dr. Loomis was a research economist for a major telecommunications company for 11 years prior to joining the faculty at Illinois State University. His recent articles include:

  • “Competition in Local Telecommunications ­ There’s More Than You Think,” with Christopher M. Swann, Business Economics, Vol. 40, No. 2, 2005.
  • “Intermodal Competition in Local Telecommunications Markets,” co-authored with Christopher M. Swann, Information Economics and Policy, Vol. 17 No. 1, 2005.
  • “Telecommunications Demand Forecasting with Intermodal Competition ­ A Multi-Equation Modeling Approach,” with Christopher M. Swann, Telektronikk, Vol. 100 No. 4, 2004.

He is the co-editor with Lester Taylor of two telecommunications books, The Future of the Telecommunications Industry: Forecasting and Demand Analysis (Kluwer, 1999) and Forecasting the Internet: Understanding the Explosive Growth of Data Communications (Kluwer, 2001). One chapter in the last book, “U.S. Broadband Pricing and Alternatives for Internet Service Providers," was co-authored with Joseph Wiedman. Professor Loomis teaches graduate and undergraduate courses in telecommunications, regulatory policy and applied economics. Dr. Loomis received his Ph.D. in economics from Temple University.
