The planning efforts of your organization will depend on how well people with a stake in the community and organization are involved. The first step is to create a planning committe that represents the greater community and a broad spectrum of local interests and skills.

Desirable Qualities of Your Planning Committee Members:

Members of your planning committee should be representative of the community; willing and able to actively participate in each of the planning steps; and capable of bringing resources to the table. Resources include: financial resources for implementation, a unique understanding or command of issues, access to staff support or an organization's time or supplies, or leadership capacity to promote or support the efforts of the planning team.
