Finding a fresh perspective on your community

Checklist For Community Swap Activities

Preparing Team Members for their Roles:

Team members need to be discreet as they seek information about the town they are visiting. They may prepare for the visit by choosing a role, such as a prospective homeowner, someone who is interviewing for a job in a nearby community, someone who might vacation in the area next year, or someone who might locate a business there. At the same time, respect the time of those with whom you visit. Don't let the economic development director waste too much time helping you find information for your prospective business. Your questions might include:

  • I've never been here before. What is there to do for recreation?
  • Are there any good restaurants in this town?
  • Where would be a good place for lunch?
  • I might bring my family here as we drive to a wedding next month. Are there any good places to stay?
  • I'm thinking about moving to a smaller (larger) community, maybe something like this community. Are the schools good here? Where is the best place to look for housing?
  • Are there local business networks that I might join, if I were to open a business here?
  • Is there a list of commercial buildings for sale or lease?
  • Are commercial building sites available? Do commercial building sites have services, such as power and water?
