Finding a fresh perspective on your community

SELECTING TEAM MEMBERS

Team Members Plan for the Visit

Plan to spend the whole day in the partner community. Use travel time to form small groups and plan a strategy for collecting information to complete the Assessment Guide (see Appendix for the Assessment Guide). Decide who will visit the library, schools, real estate offices, banks, downtown, residential areas, etc. Encourage Team Members to think as if they were a prospective business owner, new resident, or tourist and get answers to questions that such visitors would have. Collect written materials such as newspapers, park district guides, bulletins, and community calendars. Encourage team members to be discreet when they are taking notes. Team Members are not to know what community they will be visiting until the day of the visit. If a Team Member has already been to the community, note this on the Assessment Guide. Do not discuss anyone's opinion of the community before the visit.
