Finding a fresh perspective on your community

The Town Meeting

Town Meeting Publicity

The entire community needs to know about the Town Meeting. Send personal invitations to community groups, leaders and decision-makers. Since these people decide whether or not changes will be made, personal attention is recommended. Send notices to local organizations and civic groups. (A sample letter of invitation is included in the Appendix.) At least ten days before the Town Meeting, send a press release to the local paper. (A sample press release is included in the Appendix.) Try to include a photograph of something in the community to draw attention. You can provide the newspaper with a black and white photo of one of the community features which will be discussed by the visiting team. Contact local media to see if they will cover the event. Media attention helps generate local interest.
